he doesn't yet think to call himself layton's apprentice, so he's borrowing emmy's title and role of assistant: i must be helpful to the professor, so i must remain at his side even when the situation puts me in mortal peril! even when i'd be scared out of my wits! it totally isn't because i feel safe in the professor's presence... no! it's out of obligation! (etc. i've been over this before.)

what especially irks me here is that when layton has emmy and luke promise to get out of harm's way should it arise, luke just tells him to be careful! he doesn't even promise! literally every time the concept of promises has arisen, mostly layton promising to keep luke safe or uncover the specter's secret or other such things, luke hasn't believed it... and here he is, ducking away from promising to keep himself safe. what the heck!

You wouldn't consider yourself popular but somehow you ended up being friends with the entire baseball team, but the main ones were Rye, Jaxxon, Michael, Kyle, Bryan, and Layton. Your friend and your crush and vice versa, Rye Cooper, probably had something to do with that. You were shy and pretty much stuck to yourself. Your dad, Tim Bradford, wasn't too keen on you having a boy as a friend but he treated you well and took care of you. Then again you and Rye had been friends since middle school. A lot of people thought that they only kept you around because you were extremely smart but that was far from the truth. You tutored them and unlike most jocks they were extremely willing to learn. 

Tim became your father just as soon as you went into 5th grade. Your mother abandoned you when you were a baby and your father, a fellow police officer, died when you finished 4th grade in the line of duty. Your father and Tim were best friends since the police academy and he had put it in his will that you would be adopted by Tim. Tim of course knew about it and it was a full on yes. Tim loved you like his own and you loved him like a daughter would a father. It took a while until you called him dad but once you did your relationship just blossomed.

Any chance you got to mess around with your friends you took it and it was a blast. Now you may be thinking that they would get you into trouble but they weren't like that especially towards you. They never did anything to put their lives, your life, or their careers in jeopardy. In all honesty they looked out for you. Today just happened to be one of the days when you got to mess around with your friends at the police station. The Mid-Wilshire Division police station was going to be having an open house/career day open to the public and a fundraiser for the police department and the school. Since it was a fundraiser for the school, they asked the sports teams some students to volunteer and since Tim was your father you were automatically volunteered. “Remember you're coming straight to the station after school.” Your dad said that morning after you had walked into the kitchen after getting ready for the day.

“Yes, I remember.” You said as you grabbed something to drink and put it in your school bag. “Today is half a day before going on winter break so we'll be there early.” You said and he nodded knowing who you were talking about. 

“Ok I'll see you later. Be safe and follow the laws.” He said as he followed behind you. 

“Darn there goes my plans.” You said smirking and he rolled his eyes and hugged you kissing your head and then gently guiding you out the door. “I love you!” You said shouting over your shoulder.

“I love you too!” He shouted back as he watched you get into your Jeep and head to school. He shook his head and smiled. He was lucky to have you.

When you got to school you were greeted by Rye and the others and hung out before school actually started. You all chit chatted about anything especially the show you all had in common and talked about the newest episode. “So do we all agree to follow Y/N after school to the police station?” Rye asked as he slung an arm around your shoulders and you instinctively cuddled into him, sending electricity through the both of you. 

“Yes.” Everyone said or nodded.

“Great! I'll show you where to park. It shouldn't be too much of a hassle. We'll need to take some supplies too.” You said as your phone dinged and you looked at reading the text from your dad. 

“Oh, that's right.” Jaxxon said “Dad reminded me this morning.” He added. His father was a teacher at the school along with the baseball coach and one of your dad's best friends. Yes, your father, Tim Bradford, had friends and yes it shocked him and you teased him about it. As the conversation picked back up leaving the topic the bell was ringing not too long afterwards. 

School was long despite it only being a half day but you chalked it to being you excited about the activities that would be happening. Finally, after the last bell rang you were jumping up out of your seat and headed to the door just as Rye had stopped you. Without a word the both of you headed out of the classroom and to your lockers getting everything you needed and putting back what you didn’t need. “I’ll meet you at your truck.” He said and you looked up at him.

“Sounds good.” You said and he smiled and parted ways. You were quick to get what you needed and then headed out to the parking lot where you saw the boys hanging out around your truck and you smiled. These were your friends and you were proud to call them that. You stood there admiring them when Jaxxon spotted you.

“There she is! About time you showed up!” He said jokingly and that put a smile on your face.

“Ha ha very funny. Unlike you I actually had to get books out of my locker.” You teased as you walked up to him and a collective of laughs went around but a smile was on his face and yours. This is how everyone acted around each other and you loved it. “Now, we need to get going before we’re late.” You said.

“Yes ma’am.” Everyone said and you chuckled as you watched everyone get into their vehicles and so did you. You led them to the station and parked where you were told days ahead of the fundraiser. Once parked and everyone got you the whole lot of you went into the police station to be met with Grey. 

“Hello Y/N.” He said once he spotted you.

“Hey, dad around?” You asked and he shook his head.

“No, he is still out on patrol but gave me very clear instructions to tell you where to go and what to set up.” He said and you chuckled.

“Sounds just like dad.” You chuckled and so did everyone else. So, the lot of you listened and as you were listening Rye had gotten closer to you and your pinkies were touching sending electric shocks up the both of you. Once very clear instructions were given everyone was off to do what they were told. 

You got to the spot where the fundraiser was going to be and started to set up. Jaxxon had brought his truck around with all of the equipment needed for the day. While setting up everyone was laughing and music was being played through Kyle’s phone and portable speaker. Rye stayed close to you as you worked on getting and you didn’t mind that it was happening, in fact you wanted to get closer to him but couldn’t be too suspicious especially with your Aunt Angela lurking around. As you were almost finished a familiar voice called out to you and you recognized it as Nolan’s. “Hey Y/N/N!” He shouted and you turned to his voice.

“Nolan! What’s up?” You asked as he had gotten closer.

“Well, Jackson, Harper, Angela, and I were setting up the tug-of-war rope and decided to give you all a break and come see if you can beat us.” He said and you smirked and looked at Rye who had the same expression.

“Oh, you’re so on. It’ll be me, Rye, Jaxxon, and Kyle against the four of you. You know, to make it even.” You said smirking your father’s smirk that you picked up from him.

“Oh, you’re so on.” He said playfully and headed over while you called the other two over and told them what would be happening and they were on board with it. You four walked over to the other four and got into position. The eight of you picked up the rope the others were crowding around as Michael held the rope in the middle where the flag was.

“On your marks. Get ready. Go.” He said and took a step back and the game began. It was a lot of back and forth and you had to admit they were strong but the four of you were stronger. There was cheering all around but everyone had a smile on their faces and were encouraging their team on.

Lucy and Tim had just gotten back to the station after being out on the road all day. As they pulled their shop into the garage it was strangely empty and quiet. This raised Tim’s suspicions and he had to get to the bottom of it. “Come on Lucy.” He told her and she nodded and hurried after him. As they traveled throughout the station looking for anyone, they hardly saw anyone. They were about to call it in when Smitty was spotted coming from a room where food and drinks for the fundraiser were being kept that hadn’t been put out just yet.

“Smitty, where is everyone?” Lucy asked

“Oh, everyone is out in the parking lot.” He said keeping his answer vague which is just like him and he walked off.

“Thanks for the help.” She said and he held up his hand which had the drink and walked off.

“Well let’s go see what everyone is up to.” Tim said and she nodded as they went to the parking lot as they got closer, they heard laughter and cheering. Just as they walked outside, they saw the 4 teenagers and 4 officers playing tug-of-war everyone was yelling and giving orders and Tim just stood there in disbelief but a smile crept onto his face and he actually began laughing which shocked Lucy but it made her smile and laugh too. 

“So, this is what they were up to?” She asked and Tim laughed.

“Looks like it. It also looks like 4 teenagers are going to win.” He said laughing and just about that time the flag crossed over to your side and the other 4 went down. You 4 shouted in victory and Rye picked you up, spun you around, and kissed you unexpectedly but you didn’t push back you kissed him back. Tim was definitely surprised and shocked so shocked he didn’t say anything. After a minute he smiled and accepted it, if he had to choose anyone for you it would be Rye. 

“Are you ok with that?” Lucy asked

“Yea, yea I am.” He said as he watched Rye gently put you down and then you spotted him with a wide smile.

“DAD!” You yelled out and came running over to him.

“Hey, Sweetheart.” He said hugging after you ran into his arms. 

“Did you see it?” You asked and he nodded smiling.

“I sure did and it was a surprise for sure. Now you know you can’t let them down from it right?” He asked

“Oh absolutely.” You said giggling. “I need to go help and finish setting up.” You said and he nodded and smiled.

“Go.” He said giving you a hug and a kiss to your head. When he released you, you ran off to help the others and Rye was right by your side. Tim was definitely surprised at the events that he walked into but you knew you would be well taken care of.

Imagine a Top Gun AU where everytime something hurts you (it can be the death of a person you care about, someone telling you mean words...) you get a scar.

Maverick got his first scar when his father died. Since then, everytime someone told him cruel things about Duke or about his flying, another scar appeared in his body (even if he tried to deny it, the words of his classmates or superiors hurt him). When his mother died, he got another scar, but this was bigger than the previous ones and closer to his heart (in this AU, depending on how much they hurt you, the scar is little or big, and it's closer or further from your heart). Eventually he started dating people who didn't care about who his father was, but when they saw his scars, they found him disgusting. That's why he decided to hide his scars with his clothes and not date anyone.

A few months later, he met Goose. Goose, who was the person who he most cared about. Goose, who was his friend and his soulmate. Goose, who saw his scars and thought he was still beautiful. Goose, who made him accept his scars instead of hating them. Goose, who made the scars disappear (in this AU, there are soulmates too, and they are the only ones who can make the scars disappear).

And then Goose died.

When Maverick lost Goose, he got back all the scars Goose made disappear (in this AU, if you lose your soulmate, you get back the scars they made disappear), and another scar appeared in his body (the new scar was the biggest, almost covering his chest completely, and it was red, as if it was covered in blood). He tried to hide them, but someone could see how hurt Maverick was. The last person he wanted to show his scars to. Iceman.

In Canon, when he heard his apology he was apathetic, trying not to cry in front of Iceman, but in this AU, he didn't just lose his friend. He lost his soulmate. And that was enough to collapse in front of Iceman. Maverick thought his "rival" would leave him crying alone, not caring about him, so it was a surprise when he felt a hand squeezing his shoulder, trying to make him feel supported.

They had a bonding moment, but Maverick didn't expect that to make his "rivalry" (they weren't rivals anymore but they weren't friends neither, and he thought they could never be friends) go away.

And then the Layton mission happened.

He felt something weird when he held Iceman's hands, and when they hugged, he had the feeling something changed between them. And it did. After the mission, Iceman and him became friends, and they both decided to be Top Gun's instructors. One day, after a lesson with the students, he went to the locker room to change his clothes and he saw one of his scars disappeared (it was close to his wrist). He couldn't believe it at first, and he asked himself who touched him that day. Then he realized. It was Iceman.

At first, Maverick didn't want Iceman to know. If he touched him and made the scars disappear, including Goose's scar, then he would have nothing to remind him of Goose. If he kept the scar in his chest, he would always remember what he did to Goose. He would always remember Goose was dead, and he would always remember that what happened to his best friend was his fault. He needed to keep that scar because he deserved to suffer, he deserved to remember Goose everytime he looked at the mark in his chest and blame himself. That's why he didn't tell Iceman they're soulmates.

That didn't last.

When Iceman asked him to meet in a restaurant, he said yes without thinking. He thought nothing could go wrong. And then, after the date (and Maverick didn't even know it was a date), they end up in Maverick's bedroom, where Iceman discovered the truth. He saw his own scars disappearing when Maverick touched them, and he saw how Maverick's scars also disappeared when he kissed them. Maverick looking at him with fear made him realize that he already knew they were soulmates, but he didn't get angry. Not when he saw the scar in his chest.

"It was because of him, right? You didn't tell me because you didn't want this scar to dissapear" he said, not touching Maverick. When he saw him looking away, he gently held Maverick's face in his hands. "It wasn't your fault, Pete. You don't have to blame yourself, you don't deserve to suffer. What happened to him was an accident" he pressed their foreheads together, and wiped away Maverick's tears. "Mav, living like this is not living. You have to let me help you. Let me heal you".

Despite Maverick's thoughts about the situation, he couldn't bear Iceman looking him like that, with pain and sadness, as if his suffering affected him too. That's why he said "Okay", and when he felt Iceman's lips in the scar of his chest, making it disappear, for the first time in months, he felt something more than pain or apathy. No, that wasn't true. It wasn't true because everytime he was with Iceman, he felt okay. He felt he could handle Goose's death, he felt safe, he felt protected, and he felt everything was going to be alright. And then Iceman kissed his forehead, holding him tightly, not wanting to let him go. At that moment, Maverick knew he would always fight to keep Iceman by his side.

Iceman, who was the only person who actually supported him after Goose's death.

Iceman, who was the only person capable of making him feel safe.

Iceman, who was the only person that brought back his smile.

Iceman, who was the only person that made him feel loved again.

Iceman, who was his best friend.

His lover.

His wingman.

But most importanly,

his soulmate.

Part 9

While writing this, I didn’t realize I was plaigirizing Durpleton’s backstory LOL

In accordance with tradition, Steve’s mother waited until they got home, until they were behind closed doors, before she started her tirade on him.

“I hope you’re happy with yourself!”

“As if you care about my happiness!”, Steve shot back.

“Everything your father and I have done has been for your happiness. Including all of the work I’m going to have to do cleaning up this mess.”

“What mess?”, Layton asked, coming into the foyer.

“You’re son slapped Findlay in the face and then threw egg salad in his face”, Margaret said.

“Actually, it was chicken salad.”

Margaret pointed a finger at him. “You and that mouth of yours. Whatever husband we can get for you, I promise he won’t tolerate it the way we have. Now we have to put out this fire before it spreads. People talk Steven!”

Steve shrugged. “I wouldn’t know. You won’t let me near the phones.”

“Son, settle”, Layton started. “You’ve been a good sport and the girls have been liking the nursery.”

“But I will send them to another house”, Margaret warned. “And they’ll be lucky if it’s one of our vacation homes. I’d just as soon send them off with a maid.”

Steve bristled at that, his scent turning sour. His mother pinched her nose.

“I keep forgetting to order you blockers. Honestly, it’s no good the way you throw your scent around. Now, go to your room while your father and I sort this mess out. And don’t even think of going to the nursery. Eleanor has taken the children out on a stroll anyway.”

Steve’s feet stomped with each step and he slammed his door behind him. There had to be something else he could do. Some way he could contact the outside world without a phone. Or at least without his parents knowing. It had been days since he’d last spoken to his real family outside his pups. They must have noticed by now and were doing something about it.

He might be able to convince someone on the staff to let him use theirs, might being the operative word. They were usually more loyal to his mother and father. Steve considered running away on his own. But he couldn’t leave the twins behind. He knew if he did, they’d be shipped off to parts unknown, maybe even separated. He tried to think of who could help him where he was now and there weren’t very many. Folks around here would either be indifferent or send him back to his folks.

Wait-indifference, that could work. 

Steve collected himself and went back downstairs, walking past a room where his mother was on the phone, either apologizing to Findlay or planning a party, it was hard to tell. He went right to his father who was on his way out in his golf gear, right on time.

“May I come along?”, Steve asked.

“With me? To the club? Didn’t your mother send you to your room?”

“She did. But I remembered I have to be a team player”, Steve said. “And maybe there’s some nice, younger alphas at the club.”

“Well you know we can’t afford to be picky when it comes to that”, Layton reminded him as he walked out, a silent approval for his son to come along. “But perhaps there is someone. You know Findlay has some kids around your age.”

Steve winced. “Maybe not anyone from that family.”

They arrived at the country club and it took very little to convince his father to go off golfing and leave him on his own. Steve’s front was that he’d find someone to talk to in the tea room or perhaps one of the leisure decks. True to his father’s nature, the man didn’t question the fact that Steve had just returned from brunch or even process what had happened at said brunch. 

All he cared for was that his son appeared pleasant, agreeable, and social. So Steve was free to roam. The moment his father was off on the course, Steve looked around for someone his age, maybe even younger. He really didn’t feel like flirting with someone just to get access to their phone, but he would if he must. 

He sat down at a table on the deck and allowed his order to be taken as he looked around and then he saw it, a kid with an ipad. Jackpot. Steve scanned the area and found their mother. They were wearing matching clothes and as usual, she was a distance away, distracted. It reminded Steve too much of his childhood, the kind of thing he was trying to save Violet and Vanessa from. But he couldn’t think about that right now.

“Hey”, Steve said, approaching the kid’s table. “It’s probably pretty boring here, isn’t it?”

“Yeah”, the little boy said, not looking up from his screen.

“You know, if you go through that door over there”, he pointed to where servers were coming and going. “Sometimes they give you sweets.”

The boy’s legs kicked a little at that. “Won’t I get in trouble?”

“You might. But they can’t take the cookies out of your stomach when you’ve already eaten them.”

That was all the boy needed to hop out of his chair and head to the kitchen. Steve took the ipad with a smooth motion and went further inside, finding a private bathroom. He went to the apps and of course this five year old child had twitter. Steve couldn’t judge some stranger’s parenting when it was in his favor right now. 

He searched around and found exactly what he was looking for. The trending page was full of phrases and hashtags regarding the whole situation #CorrodedCoffin, HE’S MISSING, #Stevegate, and BRING HIM HOME.

Steve wanted to spend hours looking at everything. But he had to be smart with his time. His pack knew he was missing, but Steve didn’t talk about his parents much. While the Harringtons were public figures, Steve could narrow the search down from their many homes. 

He opened up the camera and started recording, beginning with who he was. “My name is Steve Munson…”

Margaret was waiting for them, glass of wine in her hand. “I don’t like it when people go behind my back.”

Layton looked confused, while Steve froze, afraid he’d been caught already.

“Steve was just at the club with me, on the prowl for a husband”, Layton said.

“He wouldn’t need to prowl if he took this seriously. And when I send someone to their room, I expect them to stay put until I say so.”

“Margaret, you’re too harsh on the boy. He was perfectly well behaved while with me.”

“Oh but of course, you’re his favorite”, Margaret bit out. “I’m just his warden.”

Steve slipped away, not interested in stroking his mother’s ego nor coming to his father’s aid. When he got to his room, he let out a sigh. He’d made the video, posted it on the kid’s account with as many keywords and hashtags as possible, then deleted it from the ipad. Steve wished he could’ve taken it with him, but surely the device had a location tracker. He could only hope the video got shared and viewed for the right people to see.

Corroded Coffin had ended their promotions early, citing issues at home. And it was just that morning that they came public with the fact that Steve, their pack omega, had gone missing after a visit to his parents. Their fans were making waves and news outlets were running with the story. The spouse of a celebrity going missing was juicy news.

Steve wouldn’t be able to see what effect his video would have. All he could hope for was that his parents didn’t see it too soon and that if they did, the coded messages in the video would go over their heads.

“My name is Steve Munson. This is a message to Eddie, Jeff, Grant, and Gareth. The pups are safe, we’re together. I went to visit my parents at a rented villa. They drugged me and now intend to make me break my bonding so that I can mate with someone in their circle. The castle has many defenses. But those unknown by the dragons may have a chance to cast a charm. I urge you to make off with the treasure first. The princess has her own wings.”

"Two Sides of the Same Coin"- Two things that are regarded as part of the same thing. Even if they're very different, they have at least one common thread that helps them fit into this trope.

Hershel Layton and Jean Descole:

"Layton is the protagonist and Descole is his antagonist for the whole prequel trilogy, with a hero/villain dynamic. Both of them have interests in archaeology and puzzles, they both know fencing, they are both excellent at unraveling a person and what makes them tick. Their confrontations are quite interesting because of this and also pretty funny at times because Descole is a cartoonish villain

MAJOR SPOILERS for this next bit idk how you handle this in propaganda but people still tag these after 10 years

In the third game of the prequel trilogy (Azran Legacy) Descole actually disguises himself by my unmasking and cooperates with Layton and pals under his real name and appearance, Desmond Sycamore. The similarities between Desmond and Layton are also very obvious and they work together very well (also turns out they are both archaeology professors). Desmond eventually reveals himself as Descole and you might feel really stupid if you didn't figure it out before the "reveal."

Des then eventually reveals himself as Layton's long-lost older brother with the same shitty father who's the main villain of the game. He goes through a sort-of redemption where he shows that he has grown to care about people more than he seemed to in the previous games where he was a villain. Then he fakes his death and they never canonically see each other again (although people often headcanon that they eventually reconcile and Des shows up to bother Layton sometimes with antics).

Also in Miracle Mask there's a pretty heavy-handed metaphor for how Layton and Des are "two sides of the same coin." There's this artifact called the Mask of Chaos which is rumored to have a counterpart called the Mask of Order. Layton figures out that they are both part of the same mask, and he and Descole (in disguise) put the two halves into this machine and solve the city from being drowned in sand (that part's not important). Anyway the metaphor is that Layton represents order and Des represents chaos and they're both two halves of a whole.

Also they both have tragic backstories where they have loved ones who died violently and they never properly coped with it. The fact that they lost each other as brothers when they were children and then lost each other again so soon after reuniting just adds another layer to this.

There's probably more tbh. Also be prepared for the layton fans on tumblr to unionize to vote for layton. We are small but mighty."

Hey yo I agree with ya on the “Flora thing”, but I also acknowledge the weirdness of how Augustus basically said “whoever can solve this can marry my young adult daughter”. The resolution where Flora gets to choose WHAT TO DO WITH HER OWN FUCKING INHERITANCE in CV was a nice way to resolve this but ALSO I appreciate that the localization said “that’s fucked up augustus” and just retconned in the “she needs a gusrian that cares for her and the puzzles (◡‿◡✿)” instead of “if ya make her smile ya can marry her and get her inheritance that way” between layton and flora because that might cause people to think “yo that’s fucked up augustus” and shatter whatever goodwill you could have for the dead dad… man i cant wait for the steampunk punky game

oh yea for sure, i dont treat the JP versions as gospel or “more canon” than the localizations for that reason, bc that is genuinely such a horrific part of the original CV

i think the localization changing augustus’ message to not be creepy and horrible was definitely the right move, but also in doing so, they kind of made it ambiguous on what exactly flora was to layton, which is what started the widespread misconception that shes a child and that hershel adopted her, not that she was a sheltered young adult that hershel took from the tower to guide and take care of until she adjusted to the real world and found her own way

and you could read that sort of dynamic as parental in the same way you can with luke, but where we currently stand in canon, neither of them are layton’s children, and if lmda truly has been retconned (which i hope it has bc he actually seriously was a terrible dad there) we genuinely dont know what hershel as a father would look like

and that’s why this misconception about flora bothers me, it makes people think that hershel is a terrible father for the way he treats flora. and he DOES treat flora badly during unwound future, no question there, and i hope desperately that gets addressed in nwos

but canonically his treatment of her has nothing to do with hershel being a bad dad or having a parental obligation to her, and everything to do with just, his own flaws as a character, his own selfishness when it comes to him and luke. and this selfishness is something that comes up several times in unwound future, and something i think has a lot of potential for character development going forward

and honestly if you ask me, i think that layton being thrown into a role of a father to luke specifically, who he has seen grow up slowly through his own eyes, perhaps too fast, and who he seems to have a selfish reliance on (as seen in some dialogues in UF) would tell a way more interesting story of layton as a father, then him seeing baby katrielle for 4 seconds, and just being like “cool baby i think ill keep it. thanks luke. you can go now”

Something something… The Layton kids all reflect the Monte d’Or Trio in some way, leading me to believe hope they had a helping hand in raising them. Not necessarily in the ‘my childhood friend is missing so I’ve adopted his kids’ kind of way, but like. Rosa is working a full time job at Gressenheller and Flora is a young adult with her own life, so maybe the Monte d’Or gang could babysit every once in a while?

Randall is Kat. Hyperactive. Boisterous. Loud-mouthed. Passionate. Rude. Spoiled. Wants shiny things. Craves attention. Living in their father’s shadows. Disregards others’ feelings at times, but can also be very kind. Obsessed with appearances. (Look at Randall’s ascot and his MG’s outfit. Look at them.) Never sits still. Have a lot of people looking out for them… They both have an assistant butler. Randall is Kat.

Angela is a lot like Flora. Secretive and endlessly patient. The princess in the tower, waiting years and years for the right person. Gets extremely anxious over losing loved ones. Dependant on others— must have someone to look after them according to their parents, can’t survive on their own. Happy as a child but faced a tragedy and now she rarely smiles. She feels useless - constantly passed from one gilded cage to the next. Keeps her true self locked away… until finally, she opens up and her joy is beautiful. But she also holds grudges. Especially over broken promises, Hershel—

That leaves Henry as Alfendi. Taken in by a family that he’s not related to biologically. Working off the premise that Alfendi was adopted too He seems so different to his family… He comes across as uncaring and he can have quite a temper. There are rumours about him— that he has blood on his hands… but really, he’s a good person and cares for his loved ones. He just has a different way of showing it. Also, he’s very passionate about his work. (The one difference is that Alfendi instantly bonds with Dalston. They’re besties)

Thinking about the Bronev family again, I hope this is coherent-

(Cw non graphic mentions of child death, Azran Legacy spoilers ahead)

Leon Bronev, a man who was likely once a good ordinary man gets kidnapped along with his wife, leaving behind their two young children because he’d found something big about the Azran (did that make it his fault? Did he blame himself?). He loses his wife while there (I’m partial to the headcanon that it wasn’t just a normal sickness) and endures who knows what other hells while stuck in that cult for decades, ending up with nothing left but the Azran.

He turns down darker and darker paths going on some twisted version of a sunk cost fallacy (he’s gone this far already, why not go further?) until he either knowingly or unknowingly orders the murder of his granddaughter and daughter in law. Then he does it, he completes his goal, he solves the last puzzle of the Azran only for all of it to have been for nothing. Then he dies for it, but is revived with the rest and thus being unable to pay with his life. He’s arrested, likely too old at this point to hold out any hope of making amends or fixing what he’s done.

Hershel Bronev, still a young child when his parents are stolen from him and he’s left with caring for his younger brother. Then they get news that he’s going to be adopted alone, that he’d have to leave Theodore behind. Instead of that, he gives up this better life and his name, giving it all to his little brother who he wouldn’t see again for decades. He becomes Desmond Sycamore

He grows up devouring his father’s archeology books, to find a way to get some kind of revenge on the ones who stole his family from him. Instead he finds peace, he finds a new family, people who love him and people he loves the same. But it doesn’t last. Targent comes again to steal his family away, this time with his own Father at the head. Desmond Sycamore dies and he becomes Jean Descole.

But despite now loathing Targent, hating his father, he follows in their footsteps. Threatening loved ones, manipulating people, even attempting to kill a child (Luke was only 10 the first time Descole had tried to kill him), all so he could be the one to uncover the Azran. He becomes like his father in more than just appearance, but does he even realise this?

He’s put on many different faces before, but he pulls Desmond from his grave to use as a mask for what should be his final trick. He meets his brother again, but he’s the only one who knows it. Throughout their journey, he almost finds that peace again, but he knows it won’t last, he won’t be tricked again. He goes forth with his plan, revealing himself attempting to claim the sanctuary for himself.

But then he jumps in front of a laser for Luke, sacrificing himself for the boy he’d attempted to kill on more than one occasion (Maybe Desmond Sycamore still existed somewhere inside him…) On what would be his deathbed, he tells his rival of their connection, of them being blood. Then they leave to confront Bronev, he should have died but he couldn’t, not yet. He drags himself to final chamber, dying and being revived with the rest of them before disappearing, leaving loose ends untied. Now Descole has no reason to exist either. Who is he?

Then There’s Theodore Bronev, but that wasn’t his name anymore. He was given his brothers first name, given his new parents’ last name, he was Hershel Layton, he has been for most of his life.

He endures tragedy after tragedy, not even remembering the first, but he doesn’t let that change him. He loses his best friend (loses the rest of the Stansbury gang), his partner (then a month in a coma) and even when he remembers his lost family, he stays a good man, a true gentleman.

I don’t know how to end this, just wish I could add a section on Rachel but we know so little about her ugh

specifically re: the professor layton series; people keep calling flora “boring” and “bland” but she has as much personality as any other character if you care to pay attention—although the writing of the games does do her some disservice in dismissing her & denying her interiority, she manages to emerge as a rounded and complicated and lovely character.

let's compare: what do we know about luke? he’s a little boy, between 10 and 13, a english gentleman in training. he loves the professor (+ flora & emmy), and his parents, but he’s much more concerned about being parted from the former than the latter. he likes to solve mysteries. he can speak to animals. he’s got a sarcastic streak, and he’s very defensive (and sometimes possessive) over people he loves, especially the professor. he holds grudges. he tends to cover up his fear with bravado (but he really is very brave when push comes to shove). he has an enormous appetite. he’s strong enough to sacrifice himself to save the world. he’s serious, sometimes somber. he acts older than he is, but he’s only a boy.

and, on the other hand, what do we know about flora? she’s a young girl, maybe 15, a little english lady. she loves the professor & luke, and she loved her father. she’s shy, somewhat unassuming, but she has a simmering temper. she’s been alone for most of her life, partly from circumstances and partly from choice. she was raised by robots, in a place designed to cater perfectly to her and keep her safe. she’s naive, oblivious, and a little clueless; she doesn’t understand danger. she steals a dog on a whim. she’s horribly afraid of being abandoned again. she leaves her home to live with people she's known for all of a day. she chooses to preserve her village but she chooses to leave (she only wants to know it’s there). she’s silly. she disguises herself when she doesn’t need to (and she doesn’t see that her disguises are see-through). she loves adventure. she’s curious. she’s nervous. she loves to cook, she can’t cook, and she can’t tell that she’s terrible at cooking. she’s cheerful. she’s well-read. she loves murder mysteries.

that is what we call A CHARACTER. a quieter one, maybe, but not an absent one. one every ounce as rich as luke’s. she is the light of my life and she is interesting.

FLORA REINHOLD (PROFESSOR LAYTON)

1.) I MEAN WHERE DOES ONE START!

Okay so in the first game (curious village) she’s locked in a tower, cut off from civalisation because her dad died and he wants her to find a worthy suitor. Not a suitor her age, a suitor who’s nice just a suitor who can solve lots of puzzles. Flora is so ill equipped for the real world because of her father. AND her dad definately set up this marrage trap when she was under 10. I mean it’s a woman who’s left in a tower for a worthy suitor. She’s not even trusted to go into town alone! The town is full of clockwork people! No one is even real!

Then in the next game she’s left behind because mystery solving is just to much for her dainty self! So she sneaks on after them, claiming she doesnt, “want to be left all alone again”. In the same game she’s kidnapped, has her identity stolen and no one notices because her only characterisation is she likes pretty things and then when they finally do notice and find out she was abandoned in a barn no one cares! SHE’S IMMEDIATELY LEFT ALL ALONE AGAIN. :(

In the third game Professor Layton lies to her to give her the slip. He has never lied in the entire series but he lies to her because she couldnt take going on this latest adventure. She’s the only character to faint during time travel (which doesnt even make sense) and KEEPS GETTING LEFT ALONE. She’s even left in a cage with her kidnapper who’s apparently only helping them for Flora. I mean she’s deeply uncomfortable when she’s caged with him, no one gave her a heads up that she would be caged with him.

She’s the only female character with the professor in the main trillogy who isnt a housekeep or secutary and her only characterisation ever is she likes pretty things and cant cook.

Thw writers then go on to make Katrielle’s game. A game about the Professor’s daughter. Not Flora the person he took into his care this entirely new character. My argument on why she’s a victim of mysogony there is they wrote her in outdated form and upon reciving critisism decided to sweep her under the rug and replace her with other characters. >:(

2.) Shafted SO hard because the writer’s immediately didn’t have any more ideas about what to do with her. She was set up as a mysterious character in her first appearance, and actually had plot relevance and a lot of potential moving forward. (Light PL spoilers)

However! In the next game, the main character just immediately leaves her at home to ‘keep her safe’, despite bringing a boy younger than her with him. She follows them, gets to join their investigation for all of about maybe an hour of gameplay, and then is promptly kidnapped unceremoniously, and literally locked in a barn for the rest og the game. When the other characters realise she is missing, they do literally nothing and don’t go to collect her until the next day DURING THE GAME’S CREDITS.

In the next game, and the final one of the trilogy she appears in, the main character and his apprentice (once again, a boy younger than her) literally run away from her whilst she’s making them sandwiches. Just so they don’t have to bring her along. She’s also kidnapped AGAIN, and does absolutely nothing about it (doesn’t even attempt to struggle) so that the main character can come in and save her. :|

Additionally, she’s never put in any side material set in the right time frame for her to be there, including not even being MENTIONED in the spin-off sequel (although that game is weird about what references it makes anyway), except for the movie, where she’s in it to once again be told to stay behind, and she gets a single word long line.

A lot of people come out of these games complaining that Flora has no personality, because the writer’s were apparently so determined to keep her off-screen that it was easy for people to question what kind of a character she even is. (She has one, they just don’t show it often enough.)

3.) She is constantly left behind and treated like a little girl even though she’s older than Luke, while he is respected as Layton’s apprentice. They don’t even eat her sandwiches :( They also have a running joke of her being really bad at cooking, but that’s literally the only thing they let her do! She also gets kidnapped TWICE (that is, every game she’s in but the first one) and the first time she gets impersonated by the bad guy and NO ONE NOTICES for most of the game.

Also in the Japanese version she’s “of marriageable age” and apparently really wants to marry Layton when she’s older… and that’s one of her key character traits in that version. She has a really cool backstory but after the first game she’s reduced to “girl whining about how they leave her behind all the time”. It’s like they wanted to fridge her but realized they couldn’t do that to a little girl.

DEANNA TROI (STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION)

1.) Apparently, Deanna was originally intended to be TNG’s Spock replacement, a highly intelligent and rational character. Unfortunately, because she was a pretty woman, the decision was made to put her in a skin tight jumpsuit, at which point all that went out the window. Her actress has complained about this and is the source for her being originally intended to be similar to Spock but being written differently after the costume decision. She’s constantly being put through godawful plots where she’s victimized in ways that male characters - and even the other women who aren’t treated as sexy props - are not, she’s constantly being badgered to get married, she’s constantly being given love interests who there’s no reason whatsoever for her to be interested in.There was one scene where she had to eat ice cream and she kept having to spit it out off screen because the outfit they put her in was so tight she couldn’t eat. She’s an interesting character who is frequently relegated to sexy lamp status even though when she IS written well she is very competent and has skills no one else on the crew has. She literally gets teleported out of her clothes in one episode. Justice for Deanna

2.) She is an underused and underdeveloped character compared to her male counterparts. She is the only character who wears a deep-cleavage suit instead of a standard Starfleet uniform (thankfuly she does wear an uniform in latest seasons). Whenever she gets more screentime it’s only to have her body or mind violated. She is a psychologist with empathy powers, but it feels like writers didn’t really know what a counselor is for in a futuristic spaceship full of men who don’t go to therapy, so she barely has anything to do except having her powers conveniently blocked, weakened or taken away by alien of the week.

I love her because she was such a sweet, caring and intelligent character, but the writers clearly wanted her to be a hot babe of the show.

Saving grace: she really does improve in the laters seasons.

3.) She is mostly relegated to being a potted plant or a sexy lamp. She is supposed to be an empath, but mostly she gets to go “captain, i think he might be lying” about characters who everyone can see are definitely lying. AND everyone else in the show gets to wear a uniform and she doesnt for NO REASON untill the second to last season of the show (and even then it isnt Her Choice, but a man makes her do it) (and the female uniform is a catsuit for no reason, the male uniform is. a shirt and pants at this point). OH and maybe 75% or her plotlines are either men assaulting her in some way or another

we immediately get a ton of details on luke's current situation. his mother has been away for quite some time and he almost completely refuses to talk to his father. layton has only ever seen luke as a baby, so neither would know each other personally at this point; in any event it is concluded that he might be willing to connect with someone outside his family (which suggests familial conflict).

and luke, just like how we've seen him in the main series, is usually bright-eyed and bushy-tailed: he's only so withdrawn now. the maid suspects this is because of the absence of his mother, which is interesting, as this being just a suspicion suggests that luke himself has said nothing explicitly to that end - even if it is true, luke has not communicated this. and indeed, he acts very grown-up: it is unclear if this is a behavior he's always exhibited, or one only picked up in recent events (relating to his mother, the specter, or something else).

despite neither layton nor luke knowing each other personally, luke seems to know a great deal about layton - calling him "esteemed", and knowing his aptitude for puzzles. as it is, luke was the one writing for layton's assistance, so he clearly knows much about layton's ability to solve baffling mysteries. and isn't it fascinating how their relationship began over luke seeing layton as this genius celebrity? that surely leads into the way luke would proceed to idolize layton, and call himself "layton's apprentice" (over "layton's friend").

clark, upon learning that luke wrote the letter in his name, immediately lashes out at luke. he seems to care about luke, sure, but he's incredibly dismissive and easily assumes the worst. clark doesn't give luke the benefit of the doubt, or even the time of day to explain himself - so no wonder luke has refused to talk to his father! he wouldn't be allowed to get a word in edgewise anyway! (i apologize for immediately seeing the worst in clark, but immediately yelling at your son for doing something kind of bad before even listening to him is a red flag to me...)

and even after layton gets him to settle his anger, clark continues to be dismissive and reductive. of course, he has reason to question the prophecies his son claims to give, but it doesn't even seem like he's tried to ask luke about them: he just calls the whole matter ridiculous and leaves it at that. but then, interestingly, clark blames himself for this behavior... firstly, this is further evidence of his dismissiveness towards luke, as he sees his supposed soothsaying as something to be blamed for; secondly, in some way we do not yet know (he changed the subject and left before elaborating), he feels responsible for luke's current state, as if he's aware of his shortcomings as a father.

this fellow seems to be friends with luke's mother, and finds it odd that she's left for so long without speaking a word, suggesting that perhaps she's had a spat with clark. notably, even though he proceeds to dismiss this, saying the two are a happy couple, luke briefly interjects as if his parents have indeed argued recently. in general, i'm inclined to believe luke's home life isn't the rosiest...

Soo let me blabber about luke here.

I really adore luke's origin here, some people seems don't care about it that much because it's not so dark like layton's but i find it really smart, luke didn't suffer from lost of someone like the other but rather than that he suffered from people judgements the kids being mean to him not because he did something wrong or bad but because he's from a rich family, that's it, that's their reason and arianna hated him just because he had a perfect family, everyone think he have a perfect life and that's why they hate him or make fun of him while it's not, we saw in the flash bake when luke meets arianna for the first time he was sitting alone, that means he was alone ever since and after the specter attack the other kids only imagine him having a good life while he's not, his mother missing and his father lying to him and maybe treat him badly (like we saw after layton enter his room) his first friend turns on him just because he have his both parents with him, everyone used his life as an excuse to call him out and that's too much for a little kid to handle it, he then closed him self away from everyone even from his father, if it wasn't for layton and emmy helping him he might turn to something like clive or maybe worse, like i said he suffered from people judgements and being guilty for things he had nothing to do with and this is so genius and smart, suffer and pain doesn't only equal losses of other people but it can come from the terrible treatment and Mis-understanding and loneliness and this is what luke back story all about, it's really unique and the most relatable one out of all other characters and that's why i adore it so much.

Yawns… the very expected Gatz / Colleymoore lore…

I’ll kinda be organizing via character and do whatever but anyways

We’ve seen a lot of Jay and Vel, but what about Daniel?

Well! Daniel was always a pretty privileged man, he was raised in wealth. He had found Jay when they were young, late teens… and had lied about his wealth so he wouldn’t almost demean Jay.

The two were VERY close, however Daniels family was a very religious one, so he had internalized homophobia. When Jay had gotten together with Vel’s birth mother who doesn’t have a name yet, Daniel got distant. Jay had the dedication to Daniel before and after the death of Vel’s mom.

After Vel was born, Jay decided he’d try and confess, and alas!!! It worked. Was it the best? No, not really, it was more of a “Dan I need your help but I also love you can you help me”

Then yk. Jay left. This left Daniel in a very uncomfortable state. Him, a young child that wasn’t really his, and a lot of inherited money. So what did he do? He went back to his old ways, and used that money to build himself up again. For his own sake and Vel’s sake. Daniel used quite some money to get a stable home, nothing grand or massive at first, but it was enough to start on his writing career.

It took him a while to get a true breakthrough, but when he did people LOVED his works. He was famous by the week. Sold copies, events, he had everything going well.

However, through all this fame and success, he still kept quiet and stayed private with him and Vel. Not a lot of people really knew who he was, just the rumors. Eventually his face got revealed and he was exposed to the public, which caught the attention of many people. Many… Many people.

This caused the two to move around a lot, eventually landing in a nice mansion that overlooks a lake, protected by fences made of wire and trees. Very cozy if you ask me! It’s nothing grand or luxurious, but Daniel made it a very clear thing that he wasn’t going to waste his money on himself. Rather, he’d spend all his money on Vel. She needed a father that cared.

When Jay had killed himself things went haywire fast, since Vel wanted to confirm Jays death, Daniel reluctantly let her go to ramshackle, and we all know how that is…

Currently? They all live together in a huge mansion that Jay chose (not so surprisingly,) surrounded by a lot of wealth and luxurious items, but it’s never really enough. Vel, Jay, and Daniel are all aware that there’s some tension and frustration between all of them, but Vel’s the only one determined to erase that.

Every other night she proposed a family dinner, often it’s Daniel that cooks because let’s be honest here, Jay would make a fucking crazy good barista or drink maker, Daniel is a good cook, it works out.

Vels the baker. No questions. Anyways!

The family dinners are nice, they’re just often chatting and gossiping (they like to talk shit. And by they I mean Jay and Vel are gossip girlies and Daniel just nods along while doing his own thing)

But things are slowly getting better!!! That’s all that counts, right? Yeah :))))

Daniel is legally blind, he can’t be trusted to drive or anything without his glasses (although he prefers to go without them…)

Vel is short but DEADLY. She was taught a lot of self defense techniques by Daniel just in case her time in Ramshackle went wrong!

Vel is stubborn but somewhat easily manipulated, she’s good at manipulating others but she’s oblivious to her own manipulation. (Hint hint. Ditch can use this against her…)

Vel actually isn’t fond of getting all dressed up!! She likes to stay more casual, although Jay would prefer if she were to dress to her rank (fancy dresses, etc.) but she likes hoodies/jackets and normal clothes.

Vel visits a lot of events, she’s famous for her modeling career! She’s been elected Ramshackles sweetheart SO many times, and she makes it her mission to win it every single year for now on. (Yes, this includes Jay giving the judges money to give her perfect scores…)

Vel is experienced with piano, violin, harp, and dancing! She loves ballet and dances that people would do in a ballroom!

Vel’s room is one of her only spaces in which she’s comfortable to be open in. She has a lot of random things and stuff, things such as a pink piano, a pink violin with white accents, some photos of her modeling work, etc.

Due to her class, Velvette has a special education program that involves her being home schooled, thankfully Daniel is a smart man! Jay is also smart too, but Jay focuses more on teaching her finance and history while Daniel handles the rest.

Vel has a personal butler, maid, and bodyguard! The reason why we haven’t seen them much is because she chooses not to associate much with them, and the bodyguard stalks from a while away, as to not get too much into her personal space.

Vel has a big stupid crush on Ditch I fear… however, she’s trying not to make the big action to confess because she (and her dads) believe that it’s the man’s / etc job to flatter her. As we can assume, this causes a huge rift in the glitterbomb relationship… sigh.

Vel was originally gonna be a love interest for Vinnie! But I decided Ditch needed a bitch.. He needs someone I fear.

Vel has a silent enjoyment towards silly little creatures. Her room is very obscure compared to what she appears! However, her favorite animal is a unicorn- JUST KIDDING! It’s a mudskipper!! She’d never admit it though.

Velvette has a pet mudskipper named Princess!!

Vel also has a pet cat named Nosferatu! Nessie for a shorter name. Hes the cat that Jay had possessed early in his ghost era! A fluffy ragamuffin. He’s still connected to Jay through some form of soul bond, but it works out well!

After spending a long time, Vel convinced her dads to let her have her own garden! Her favorites are her tulips, lilacs, and the aconite flowers!

Velvette has a piece of jewelry that can call upon Jay at any time, he’s still partially a creature from the underworld which gives him the ability to have some magical abilities as before, however they’re rarely used.

86! Damn, that's more than I remember 🙀 I have been writing pretty fervently since I was pretty young, though, and I transferred all my old fics from fanfiction dot net to AO3, so it's a long stretch of time. All my old wattpad fics are still rotting somewhere though lmaooo I can't even access them anymore bc I forgot my password and I can't reset it bc I used a school email 😔

Oof, okay, here we go. A lot of the fandoms I have tagged on AO3 don't really "count" because they're just aggregate tags for the same fandom, so even though AO3 says the number is 48, I'm gonna count the TRUE number as 17. Resemblance (Naruto) - bro I always forget people really liked this one. Literally an unedited drabble I did in an hour for a "pride month drabble challenge" which I immediately abandoned. Trans rights I guess

Always Wanna Play (But You Never Wanna Lose) (Persona 3) - This one isn't surprising either, and I'm very proud of this fic so I'm quite chuffed to see it get so much attention... thanks everyone :')

The Beat of Your Heart (Zelda) - Now this one surprised me a lot. This was just a little piece for ZeLink week... Another unedited one, I literally was writing it on the toilet in church so I could get it out in time 😭

Do you respond to comments?

I try to! But I get very anxious about it and tend to work myself into a tizzy, so I often put it off for later and then forget, haha. Then I'll go and respond to all my comments from the last few months and feel even weirder about it... T_T

What's the fic with the angstiest ending you've ever written?

Oof. That's... a hard one, haha. I've written a couple of fics without happy endings, though I typically don't. At least three fics which end on a canonical character death, for instance. But I'd say the ending which made me the most emo writing was Butter, a Mother 3 fic. It ends with Lucas, who's like 9, recently lost his mother, then lost his twin brother (and thinks it's his fault), and is now being neglected by his father, crawling into bed and crying. So yeah, pretty bleak, lmao... but at least he doesn't die I guess?

Do you write crossovers?

I do, but I haven't posted many yet. I'm not always huge on writing them, but I do think about them a lot. I was working on this one Persona 3 x Fire Emblem Awakening crossover but I lost steam on it, and now there's a really lovely crossover on AO3 with a similar premise that I was SO delighted to come across!!! Hope y'all don't mind me taking a break from linking my own work to shill for this one, hehe

Have you ever gotten hate on a fic?

Unfortunately, yes, about six times, I'd say. Even more unfortunately, most of those times happened earlier on in my fanfic writing career, and I was pretty sensitive to hate back then, so I deleted many of the relevant fics, and some of them I don't even have access to myself anymore.

Not gonna talk about the ones that are still upsetting, but I will talk about the funny examples: on a (since deleted) RWBY fic, I said in the author's note that I "wrote them as platonic, but the fic can be read as WhiteRose", and then I got a glowing comment gushing about how good the story was which ended with "but then you had to ruin it by shitting all over WhiteRose, how about you [long suicide bait]". Third most baffling comment I've ever received.

The two most baffling were on different fics, but both were making the same weird accusation??? One was on a ZeLink fic (actually, on Comfort, my fifth most kudos'ed fic of all time now), and y'know I think I'm just gonna show you the comment in question:

The other one was on a long-since deleted fic which focused on both a romantic ship, as well as a fatherly relationship between one member of the ship and the other member's father. I guess having a fatherly relationship with your father-in-law makes your boyfriend actually your brother (and therefore you can't date him anymore). IDK man people are crazy. (tbf the commenter in question thought I was setting it up so that he'd get adopted by his boyfriend's parents, which would give them more of a case, but like... that didn't happen in the fic and wasn't going to. they just guessed at a future plot development and got angry about their guess)

Do you write smut?

I do, but I've never posted any. I've posted one fic that was very suggestive, I'd even call it "NSFW" in a sense, but never anything explicit. Maybe I will in the future? We'll see if I can ever finish anything smutty, lmao.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yep, I had Ultimatum, my longest chapter-fic (and by far my most popular fic in the ff.n days) stolen and posted on another site by somebody. I reported it but never checked back up to see if it got taken down.

I also feel that I've had my work plagiarized pretty damn blatantly in another fandom (I was browsing a certain AU tag and read one which contained all the exact events and sometimes word-for-word dialogue from a fic of mine, just very very slightly rewritten) but the poster had no other works and their writing was definitely extremely juvenile, so... I figured they were a dumb kid and just decided not to raise a fuss. Checked back later and they deleted it, hopefully because they realized they shouldn't do that, so I figure there's no need to start shit over it. Honestly, if that person used that experience as a jumping-off point to write their own fics, then I'm glad it happened, imitation being the highest form of flattery and all.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

No, though I had someone reach out to me on fanfiction dot net a long time ago and ask permission to translate An Unheard Goodbye, which was super exciting! I agreed, but I don't believe they ever got around to it, or if they did, they never posted it. Still very flattering, and I think about that a lot, hehe.

What’s your all-time favorite ship?

HOW COULD I POSSIBLY ANSWER THIS. UM. UM UH. UHHH UM UH I. UM.

I'm.... gonna say Zelda/Link? I haven't written it in FOREVER but it was such a huge part of me coming into my own as a fanfic author, so I have to give it credit for that.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?

.......all of them 😭 god I have so many of these damn things. But for the prime example, I'd point to Ultimatum, an old Pokemon fic that I started in middle school. I got all the way to the climax and I feel bad leaving my readers hanging, but... at this point, if I did continue it, I would honestly have to rewrite the whole fic first just to be in line with my current understanding of the characters.

What are your writing strengths?

Y'know, I think I get character voices down extremely well in a way which elevates my dialogue and narration. That's probably the thing I'm most proud of in my own writing, at least.

What are your writing weaknesses?

BREVITY. Or the utter, glaring lack of it. I have also been known to muddy up my writing with an overabundance of A) adverbs, B) unneeded clauses tacked onto perfectly good sentences, and C) em-dashes 😭

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?

I think it's dope as fuck, but I currently can't really accomplish it because I'm monolingual (NOT FOR LONG IF I HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT, I'M COMING FOR YOU, JAPANESE FLUENCY!!!!). I will also say that I don't like when authors will write characters having a story-important conversation in another language, then put the translations in the end notes or something, requiring you to either read the chapter confused or else keep scrolling back down and back up.... I think even that's totally fine to do if what's being said isn't plot-relevant, though.

What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?

Naruto. I hadn't read or watched Naruto btw, I had only read other Naruto fanfics. I have spoken on this topic many times, but it remains hilarious to me. Also, so many of my old Naruto fics are lost to the Wattpad times, but I will take this opportunity to once again share a quote which I recently managed to unearth from my long-lost unsung magnum opus:

Never ever will I intentionally attain the level of comedy gold that I managed while writing completely dead serious Naruto fanfiction on Wattpad in 2012.

In all seriousness, this question always makes me sweat, but I think I'm gonna say Oil, a slightly older fic from my EliHec days which I absolutely obsessed over for months before finally managing to finish. And, unlike most of the fics that I obsess over, I think the obsession actually made it come out better rather than worse, haha.
